This week I’ve got some work in:
EDITION 5: Hide and Seek, 44AD’s Annual Open Printmaking Exhibition.
Exhibition runs: 16th – 19th May 2019, Open: 12pm – 6pm (Sun 1pm – 4pm). Private View: Weds 15th May 2019 (6pm – 8pm). 4 Abbey St. Bath. BA1 1NN.
These prints create new images out of the bits of images. I scanned two family photographs and ran them through a piece of font making software, so that the subject was reduced to two tones and each section of the photo corresponded with a letter on my keyboard.
The process hid certain details and picked out others (much as memory does). After fracturing the images I pieced them back together – by typing – and made paper stencils of the result. As these stencils themselves are liable to wear with repeated printing, the images have once again gone through a process of being obscured (or hidden) this time manually, and the first time digitally.
